 Filter layers typically consist of well-graded granular material, with or without a geotextile separator. Filter layers are used within coastal, drainage, and embankment structures to protect the foundation soil from erosion by waves, currents and other water stress loads.  Tensar Triton® Filter mattresses can be used in filter layer design as an alternative to traditional granular filters.

Proper filtration design utilizing grain size filter method prevents fines from washing out of the subsoil, reduces differential wave pressures, and can be placed over irregular surfaces.

Beyond these characteristics, the implementation of a Tensar filter mat also provides a uniform construction thickness, deployed underwater, puncture resistant, can be installed in higher currents, and optimizes the filter media.
