Tensar Composite System

 

Whether your design requires the need for underwater placement of a geotextile filter or liner, or you need to cap a deposit of contaminated fill, the Triton® Composite Mattress System is a solution engineers look to.  The Triton® Composite Mattress System was developed to address challenging projects to provide a method to deploy, place and secure geotextile fabric or liner in challenging site conditions, such as, deep water and/or strong currents. As engineers discover the benefits and design flexibility, the System has been used for many different applications, including in situ capping both under water and in the dry.


A Triton® Composite Mattress features a geotextile fabric or liner encapsulated within or attached to the bottom of a stone-filled mattress made of Tensar Geogrid. The stone fill provides ballast weight for the fabric as well as a bedding layer for additional rip rap or armor stone.  The controlled mat thickness allows for a controlled cap thickness and does not require the cap to be over designed to assure minimum thickness requirements.

Triton® Composite Mattress Systems have been used in conjunction with the CETCO Reactive Core Mat®, were deployed as part of a modular reactive capping system for the remediation of Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids (NAPL) contaminated sediments, providing effective capping for a variety of projects. They can also be configured to encapsulate alternative fill materials such as sand, carbon or CETCO Organoclay materials for site-specific remediation solutions for a wide range of in situ capping applications. Tensar Grid Composite

 Grid composites have been used for decades for drainage, erosion control, underlay and other engineering applications. Triton® grid composite provides an improved foundation and filtration layer for a wide range of conventional construction alternatives such as rip-rap, rubble-mound structures and similar installations. Designed for use beneath rip-rap and armor stone, the Triton® Grid Composite System combines durable Tensar® Geogrids with various geotextiles. Mechanically connecting these two geosynthetic materials provides both filtration and separation from the geotextile along with superior reinforcement and stability from the geogrid. Other benefits that the Triton® Grid Composite System provide are:


• Reducing settlement by distributing loads over a wider area

• Securing the geotextile firmly against the sub-grade to mitigate scour

• Providing a protective “cushion” for the geotextile during and after installation


Finally, the Triton® Grid Composite System saves on installation costs by eliminating more expensive alternatives such as graded aggregate filters, excessively thick sections and over excavation of soft sub grades. It also reduces labor when both materials are desired and comes already mechanically connected and ready for the contractor to roll out.

Used by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and coastal engineers around the world, Triton® Marine Mattress Systems offer superior performance in many applications requiring long-term, reliable erosion protection. The Triton® Marine Mattress System was developed for erosion control and submerged foundation applications, including:


  • Shoreline revetments and dune stabilization
  • Bridge scour countermeasures, riverbank protection, and channel lining
  • Foundations for breakwaters, jetties, groins and dikes
  • Pipeline cover to prevent scour and protect submerged pipelines
  • Drainage channel protection and sewage outfalls

Specifiers and owners continue to look to Triton® Marine Mattress Systems for the above applications as well as others because of their high-performance polymers. Many systems use steel and/or concrete and do not withstand the long-term effects of their environments. Triton® is superior to other hard armor systems because of the ability to customize the mattress for the project and the durability and long-term tensile capacity of the Tensar® Geogrids. Many specifiers of traditional steel gabions are not satisfied with the design life the steel wire-based systems provide and are looking for a long-term solution with the same flexibility gabion systems offer. Triton® Gabions Baskets and Mats offer a durable, non-corrosive and installation-friendly alternative to conventional steel wire gabions, including galvanized and PVC-coated gabions. Constructed with 100% polymer components including Tensar® Geogrid, HDPE braid and HDPE bodkin rods, Triton® Gabions baskets and mats are specified for use where there is high potential for corrosion, such as:


  • Salt water environments
  • De-icing salt/chemical runoff
  • Acidic environments in mining operations


In addition to their corrosion resistance, the lightweight gabion and mat materials are ideal for use in remote locations, where site access is a significant challenge such as:


  • Channel linings, ditches and spillways
  • Scour aprons
  • Shoreline protection
  • Canal and stream bank protection


Triton® Gabion baskets and mats can be designed for various dimension and can incorporate lifting loops to allow for machine placement after filling for those more challenging access projects, such as stream bed and shoreline applications. Mat dimensions can be customized to limit waste and increase installation efficiency, while the grid aperture can be reduced to accommodate smaller stone fill, decreasing mat thickness. Lighter weight than metallic mats, Triton Gabion Mats are easier and less costly to transport, handle and install.

 For more than 25 years, Filter Units have been widely used in civil engineering for erosion control, revetment, streambank stabilization, and marine applications in Asia and Europe.  JLSC has recently brought this product to our coverage area to provide additional solutions to our customers.  With the long track record and proven performance demonstrated by the Filter Units, JLSC believes the Filter Units from Kyowa® provide designers and contractors another solution in the river and coastal markets.


Filter Units are a distinctive product providing a system to use the flexibility and longevity of time proven rip rap while delivering stability and deployment for those hard to access areas such as stream banks, bridge piers, and the ocean floor.  The Kyowa® patented system utilizes a very high strength Polyester mesh that can lift up to 8 tons of stone in a single unit.
